The season is starting, and off we go: Noda BCVS begins its second chapter in style!

After concluding the first alongside the Filarmonica della Scala, it is now the turn of another internationally known virtuoso Italian orchestra: the RAI National Symphony Orchestra. The baton will be taken by Michele Mariotti, Musical Director of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and a fixture on some of Europe’s most iconic stages, now ready for his first season as principal conductor. He will enhance this exceptional evening with his natural authority and powerful lyrical influence. The first guest soloist in a season showcasing the key figures of piano, from across various generations, is Yulianna Avdeeva. Gold medallist at the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in 2010, she will tackle Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. 24 variations of contrasting shades, from exultation to the shadows of Dies Irae, where incandescent virtuosity and dramatic depth are brought powerfully together. The concert begins with Gioachino Rossini’s William Tell Overture: a symphonic ode from the heart of the Alps. The trumpet heralds the brilliant march of the Swiss soldiers in this now iconic piece (a favourite for brass bands, fanfares and wind ensembles alike). And finally, Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 – the Scottish Symphony – evokes the mists and legends of the Highlands. Mendelssohn acts as a landscaper of sound, introducing folk motifs into a fresco steeped in nostalgia.
