Chaplin Family Film Concert

For this family film concert, Noda BCVS will be transformed into a cinema and pay homage to the eternal genius of Charlie Chaplin to mark 50 years since his death. A renowned expert in film concerts and the world of Chaplin, Philippe Béran will guide the audience throughout the performance, sharing the secrets of this fascinating world with young and old alike, whilst conducting the Lemanic Modern Ensemble. This journey through time will sweep us back to the movie theatres at the turn of the 20^th century, where silent films accompanied by live musicians were the norm. On the bill, two Chaplin short films created during his collaboration with the Mutual Film Corporation between 1916 and 1917. These hilarious gems already feature all the tragi-comic ingredients of his masterpieces over the following decades (The Kid, The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times). The 17 musicians of the Lemanic Modern Ensemble will perform the timelessly fresh scores written in the early 2000s by the great American film composer Carl Davis. A globally renowned specialist in silent film accompaniment, Davis worked in close alignment with Charlie Chaplin’s musical intentions, Chaplin himself being a composer and passionate music lover.
