Orchestre de Paris ǀ A. Orozco-Estrada ǀ G. Capuçon

A musical romp through the colours of the orchestra and the landscapes of the cello, this evening will sweep us along on a journey where virtuosity, creation and the great repertoire come together.

The Orchestre de Paris, the iconic French symphony orchestra and flagship ensemble of the Philharmonie de Paris, brings the stage to life with its 119 musicians and a sonic tradition forged since its creation in 1967. It is headed by the Colombian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada, whose charismatic energy and elegance have galvanised orchestras and audiences all over the world. They are accompanied by Gautier Capuçon, one of the most remarkable cellists of our time, showcasing the expressive depth and virtuosity of his play. Always seeking new horizons for his instrument, he is also the leading interpreter of Max Richter’s Cello Concerto, the Swiss premiere of which he is presenting at Noda BCVS. Known for his film scores and unique soundscapes, the German-British composer delivers a highly anticipated work, extending the dialogue between contemporary creation and grand orchestral tradition. Berlioz opens the evening with the flamboyant Carnaval romain, an orchestral flourish inspired by Italian vitality and folk traditions. The concert will end with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, an immense fresco imbued with doubts, faith and a confrontation with destiny – a work whose result, teetering between the triumph of fate and the victory of hope, remains fascinatingly ambiguous.
