Camerata Bern ǀ P. Kopatchinskaja

One of the most fascinating violinists of our time will take the reins: Patricia Kopatchinskaja.

A visionary artist, of rare expressive intensity and unique theatricality, she explores music as if it were a living language, capable of speaking to our present. At the age of 21, she decided to complete her musical training at the Conservatory in Bern, where she has lived ever since. So, it is a real stroke of luck to have her here as an Artistic Partner of the Camerata Bern, an ensemble which shares her curiosity, taste for risk-taking and profound need for artistic excellence. Established in 1962, the Camerata Bern is one of the most inventive string ensembles in Europe. The ensemble is known for the precision of its sound, while remaining inspired by a spirit of adventure. The programme created by Patricia Kopatchinskaja criss-crosses the states of human existence. Her own work, Ursprung der Welt, opens the evening with a sonic meditation inspired by the cry of a mother giving birth. From Purcell to Ligeti, the first works evoke the exploration and possibilities of childhood, while Mozart and Schubert delve into the complex landscapes of the soul. And between these stages, Kurtág’s miniatures suspend time. Then the energy of Schulhoff bursts forth like a final spur, before Schumann and Schubert open our perspective towards other spheres. A musical journey that is as intense as it is poetic.
