Sir András Schiff and the Cappella Andrea Barca are coming to Sion first of all for a working residence. It is in this privileged setting that they will put the finishing touches to their programme, before sounding the kick-off, as it were, to their farewell tour from the stage of Noda bcvs. This elite ensemble, formed by freelance soloists and chamber musicians, was created specifically in 1999 to interpret Mozart’s complete piano concertos. After more than twenty years of excellence, this farewell tour marks the end of an extraordinary musical adventure. The programme begins with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, in which the dialogue between soloist and orchestra illustrates the affirmation of the individual so dear to the Enlightenment. This is followed by Haydn’s Symphony No. 45, the “Farewell” Symphony, a musical plea for the rights of musicians, famous for the progressive departure of the instrumentalists. We then move on to the Overture from Don Giovanni, a dramatic theatrical work that embodies individual freedom. The concert comes to an end on Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, marked by its intensity and its tragic atmosphere. Based in Basel, Sir András Schiff has devoted a large part of his career to the interpretation of the classical and Viennese repertoire. This concert is a vibrant tribute to Mozart and Haydn, two essential figures in the history of music.
