Delve into the heart of classicism with the Camerata Salzburg, an ensemble of considerable reputation that specialises in the classical Viennese repertoire. For more than 70 years, the Camerata has thrilled Salzburg and world audiences, embodying the Viennese sound in its lead role at the Salzburg Festival and Mozart Week (Mozartwoche). Under the inspired direction – and bow – of Gregory Ahss, it entices you into a musical journey in which cellist, Kian Soltani, a renowned virtuoso, makes each note awe-inspiring. On the programme: Mozart and Boccherini. Mozart composed his Symphony No. 21 (K 134) at the age of 16, after an incredible succession of eight symphonies in eight months. Based on solid construction and various influences – particularly Joseph Haydn – this work marks a key stage in Mozart’s journey towards his great symphonies. As for Symphony No. 27 (K 199), generally little known, it unveils a sparkling Viennese touch, especially in its final movement. A master cellist, Luigi Boccherini makes the instrument sing with a refined, virtuoso hand. His cello concertos, youthful works, ally the grace of the galant style and classical depth. His Sonata for two cellos (G. 17), composed for his own use, illustrates his melodic genius and his mastery of instrumental colour. A programme in which classicism shines through in its balance between finesse and expression.
